"Before You Blame The Children."
Before You Blame the Children, Look at What You Left Them
Psalm 78:4–8 | Preparing the Next
It is easy to look at Gen Z and the emerging Gen Alpha and criticize what we see. But before we blame the fruit, we must examine the seed.
In this challenging Youth Month message, Pastor Kelvin A. Steele turns the examination toward the generations that came before. Psalm 78 reveals that G-D commanded one generation to intentionally teach the next so that their children would know His works, place their confidence in Him, remember His commandments, and refuse to repeat the rebellion of those before them.
Every generation is accountable for its own choices, but no generation develops in isolation. What one generation tolerates can become normalized in the next and defended by the one after it. So we must ask: What did we inherit? What have we normalized? What are we handing them? What did we teach them, what did we fail to teach them, and what did they learn simply by watching us?
Yet this message is not about generational blame. It is about generational responsibility and redemption. Through Jesus Christ, what was handed to us does not have to be what we hand to them.
